At West Witney Primary School all staff strive to support every child in achieving their potential in and out of the classroom through inclusion. If you have any concerns about your child’s special educational needs then please speak with their class teacher who can then seek advice from the SENDCo.

 

Mrs Helen King is the SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator). She works full time and can be contacted through the school office on 01993 706249 or the school email: office.2601@west-witney.oxon.sch.uk.

WHAT IS SEND? (Special Educational Needs and Disability)

A child or young person has SEN if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her.

A child of compulsory school age or a young person has a learning difficulty or disability if he or she:

• has a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age, or
• has a disability which prevents or hinders him or her from making use of facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools or mainstream post-16 institutions.

WHAT IS INCLUSION?

At West Witney Primary School we believe that every child should feel supported in reaching their goals. Inclusion is the responsibility of every member of staff for all children and we work hard to uphold inclusive provision. We strive to create a safe environment where barriers to learning are removed and children feel confident, accepted and valued, thus ensuring that every child makes progress towards their goals.

 

WHO HELPS US AND OUR CHILDREN/FAMILIES?

The school works closely with outside agencies to gain additional support and advice for children who may need it. When staff and/or parents raise concerns, it may be necessary to consult specific agencies.

  • Communication and interaction differences (includes autism, speech, language and communication needs)
